2 International Conference on Corporate Governance
Minutes of the 3rd Steering Committee meeting
 
held on November 21, 2001 at Hotel Taj Mahal, Mumbai

The third steering committee meeting of ICCG-2002 held at Hotel Taj Mahal, Mumbai on November 21, 2001 was chaired by Shri N Vittal, Central Vigilance Commissioner, Govt. of India. He extended a warm welcome to all the members. Leave of absence was given to the members who could not attend the meeting.

After a detailed discussion, the programme for the ICCG-2002 was approved with the following modifications:

  1. The Second Plenary Session on January 18, 2002 be called "Corporate Governance Good for Business - Indian Experience" and was to replace the Session on "Corporate Social Responsibility". The session on Corporate Social Responsibility be shifted to the first session on January 19, 2002. It was decided that this session should be chaired by Mr K M Birla and should have speakers from Private Sector, Public Sector and Government. Shri D R Mehta offered his help in urging speakers and papers for this session. He also offered his help in requesting Mr Birla to participate.

  2. It was suggested that apart from the list of invited speakers we could invite eminent luminaries like Mr Charles Handy, Prof C K Prahlad, Prof Sumantra Ghoshal, Ms Anita Roddick and Prof Jack Canfield the author of 'Chicken Soup for the Soul'. Air India could be approached to sponsor their travel. Mr Ashank Desai offered to contact Prof C K Prahlad and request him to give a special address at the conference. Mr Zutshi offered to consider sponsoring one of the lead speakers. It was suggested that such gestures would be forthcoming from other corporates as well, necessitating proactive action.

  3. It was decided that the Steering Committee members specially Navratna's and major private sector enterprises be requested to sponsor the event. It was noted that ONGC and HUDCO have graciously offered to be the Principal Sponsors. The categories of sponsorship was fixed Rs. 4.5 lac for principal sponsor. They would be called Platinum Sponsor. Gold Sponsorship fee would be Rs 2.5 lac and Silver Sponsorship fee would be Rs 1 lac. Their names and logo will be carried out in all Congress brochures as well as on the website of ICCG, which could be accessed by clicking www.wcfcg.net. A write-up of 50 words about the activities and achievements of the company could be put on the website. Members who had not sent their logos were requested to send these details to the ICCG Secretariat before December 5, 2001.

  4. It was pointed out that there is an imperative need to conduct pre-congress work-shops to sensitize and create awareness on the role of Corporate Governance. For this purpose one-day seminars have been arranged at following venues and places:

The next i.e. 4th Steering Committee meeting will be held on the 4th of January 2002 at 7:30 pm in Hotel Taj Mahal, Mumbai with Lord Swraj Paul as the guest of honour. All the members were requested to make it convenient to attend this meeting and nominate their officers to participate in the above one day programmes.

The meeting ended with a warm vote of thanks to the Chairman and other participants in the meeting.
